What Is Rapid Transformational Therapy (RTT®) and How Does It Work?
You may have heard of hypnotherapy, but what about Rapid Transformational Therapy, or RTT®?
RTT® is a therapeutic approach developed by Marisa Peer that draws on techniques and principles from hypnotherapy, NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming), psychotherapy and cognitive behavioural approaches.
At the heart of RTT® is a simple idea:
To change a pattern, it can be helpful to understand what is driving it underneath.
Why understanding the root of a problem can matter
We don't always consciously know why we think, feel or respond in certain ways.
You might know there's nothing to worry about, yet still feel anxious.
You might know you're capable, yet constantly doubt yourself.
You might know you don't need everyone's approval, yet still find yourself people-pleasing.
That's because understanding something logically and feeling it at a deeper level aren't always the same thing.
Our experiences throughout life can shape the beliefs we develop about ourselves, other people and the world around us.
Over time, conclusions such as:
"I'm not good enough."
"I'm different."
"I can't cope."
"I'm not lovable."
"It's my fault."
can become so familiar that we stop questioning them.
Instead, they become part of the way we see ourselves.
If you'd like to understand more about how I work with these underlying patterns, you can read more on my [How It Works] page.
Where RTT® comes in
RTT® uses hypnosis to help you enter a deeply focused and relaxed state in which you can explore thoughts, memories, beliefs and emotional patterns with less of the usual conscious analysis.
The purpose isn't simply to revisit the past.
It's to understand what you learned from it.
A childhood experience, for example, may have led you to a conclusion about yourself that made perfect sense at the time.
But that doesn't mean the same belief is useful or accurate today.
Once you understand where a pattern came from and why your mind has continued to use it, you can begin to question it, reframe it and create a different way of responding.

RTT® and the subconscious mind
Much of what we do every day happens automatically.
You don't consciously decide every time how to respond to criticism, whether to worry, whether to trust yourself or how confident you're going to feel in a particular situation.
Familiar patterns can happen before you've had time to think about them.
This is why consciously telling yourself to "stop worrying," "be confident" or "don't care what people think" isn't always enough.
RTT® works with the subconscious patterns underneath those responses.
By combining understanding with hypnosis and new suggestions, the aim is to help different thoughts, beliefs and responses become increasingly familiar.
What can RTT® be used for?
RTT® can be used as part of therapeutic work around a wide range of emotional and behavioural patterns.
In my own work, I use elements of RTT® particularly when helping people with areas such as:
Anxiety and overthinking
Confidence and self-worth
People-pleasing
Perfectionism
Fear of judgement
Public speaking
Imposter syndrome
Limiting beliefs
Unhelpful habits and patterns
If worry and overthinking are the patterns you're struggling with, you can read more on my [Anxiety & Overthinking] page.
But RTT® isn't about magically removing a problem while you sit back and do nothing.
Understanding where something came from can be incredibly valuable, but understanding alone doesn't necessarily create lasting change.
What happens after the insight?
This is an important part of the process.
Once you understand an old pattern, you have the opportunity to start responding differently.
That might mean making different choices, practising new behaviours, challenging an old belief or learning to see yourself differently.
The more you put those changes into practice in everyday life, the more familiar they can become.
And that's ultimately what we're working towards:
Not simply understanding why you became the person you are today, but helping you become the person you want to be next.
